A Must-Keep Resource for Every Twin Lakes Resident: The Lake-Friendly Living Guide
We’re excited to share a powerful new tool created just for our Twin Lakes community — the Lake-Friendly Living Guide. Whether you live on the shoreline or uphill from it, this guide is for you.
Designed to be both practical and empowering, this beautifully illustrated brochure offers 15 simple strategies you can take on your own property to protect the health and beauty of our lakes. From minimizing runoff and maintaining your septic system to planting native vegetation and reducing lawn chemicals, these steps are easy to follow — yet together, they create a powerful ripple effect across our watershed.
Why does this matter? Because everything we do on land affects our water. Stormwater runoff, erosion, fertilizers, and even the plants we choose can have a big impact on lake clarity, wildlife, and even property values. As our community grows and changes, we must work together to safeguard what makes Twin Lakes so special.
We encourage all residents to keep this guide as a reference — tuck it in a kitchen drawer, tape it inside your garage, or post it near your gardening tools. It’s not just a brochure — it’s a step-by-step invitation to become a steward of our shared lake environment.
Getting a Copy:
Consistent with the Stewards’ mission to include all members of Twin Lakes in lake-related efforts, we will be making every effort to hand-deliver a printed copy of the guide to every household. If you don’t receive one or would like a copy sooner, please reach out to us at info@stewardsoftwinlakes.org — we’re happy to get one to you.
This guide represents our collective mission: to move from awareness to action, and from individual efforts to community impact. It was adapted with gratitude from materials shared by the Lake Hopatcong Foundation and Lake George Association and supported in part by a grant from the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and DCNR.
Let’s lead by example.
We are all stewards of the Twin Lakes let’s show that in Twin Lakes, caring for the land is how we care for the water.
